Things to do in Wiltshire?
A perfect base - centrally located with easy access to many different attractions.
Compton Bassett is a hidden gem, tucked away, yet with excellent access to main routes. Just 3 miles off the A4, good access to junctions 16 or 17 of the M4 and a short drive to the A303, it is an ideal base for a series of day trips.
Stonehenge (25 miles) and Avebury (a 5 mile walk) - two World Heritage sites just a few miles away for those wishing to find out more about Wiltshire's ancient past. In addition, just a short distance along the A4 is the largest man-made mound in Europe, the mysterious Silbury Hill, compares in height and volume to the roughly contemporary Egyptian pyramids, and West Kennet Longbarrow - a neolithic burial chamber more than 5,500 years old. Such a special feature of our local area - and for those who want to know more, visit Oldbury Tours, for expert information and guidance.
Two quintessential British villages, probably very familiar to you through their appearance in many films including Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice and War Horse, are Lacock (10 miles) and Castle Combe (16 miles)
Three interesting options in the nearby town of Devizes (9 miles) are the Wiltshire Museum, famous for its Avebury and Stonehenge collections, a tour of the Wadworths Brewery perhaps followed by a walk up the Caen Hill Locks - all 29 of them - the longest flight of locks in the country.
Bowood House, with its beautiful buildings and gardens, golf course and spa, plus its many events through the summer is just 6 miles away.
For the car enthusiasts amongst you, the Atwell Wilson Motor Museum, just 3 miles away, is well worth a visit and if you bring your own classic (or not so classic) car when you stay with us, we can offer garage parking (if booked in advance) to keep it safe and dry!
If you are looking for some exercise, there are 3 golf courses within easy reach; cycle paths starting at the end of the lane; the Ridgeway accessible from a path just 100 metres from the farm or for something very 'Wiltshire', check out the Cherhill White Horse - just 3 miles from the farm!.
If you are visiting for the popular Badminton Horse Trials (normally first weekend in May), we are just 20 miles away with easy access to the Luckington Lane parking - a perfect way to dodge the traffic jams!, Or perhaps just to see the magnificent Gardens on their open days.
